Water Heater and HVAC FAQS for Meriden, CT
Costs range from $3,800 to $7,500 for a central air conditioner. Depending on how much cooling power your home requires, you can spend more or less.
The larger and more powerful a system you need and the more expensive it will be, the larger the space you wish to cool. The main variables that affect AC pricing ranges are shown below.
- System type: Air conditioning systems designed to cool individual rooms are more expensive than central systems.
- System size: The price of a system increases with its size.
- Size of the home: Larger homes need stronger cooling systems.
- Labor: The expenses of installation are highest for systems that are more complicated or challenging to implement.
On average, an AC unit should be replaced every 10 to 15 years. The exact lifespan can vary depending on factors like usage, maintenance, and climate conditions. Regular maintenance and prompt repairs can extend the unit's life, but as it reaches the 10-15 year mark, it may become less efficient and more prone to breakdowns. Replacing the AC unit with a newer, more energy-efficient model can help improve comfort, reduce energy consumption, and avoid costly repairs in the long run.
The cost to install a water heater can vary based on factors like the type of water heater (tankless, traditional tank), capacity, location, and labor charges in your area. On average, the installation cost can range from $500 to $1,500 or more. Tankless water heaters tend to be more expensive to install due to additional requirements. It's best to obtain quotes from licensed plumbers to get a more accurate estimate tailored to your specific needs and the complexity of the installation.

Good service, steep cost!
John - Meriden, CT 06451
Good customer service, very nice technicians that show up when they're supposed to. If I had a negative about the experience it would be the cost for the service, a furnace and hot water tank cleaning shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg, it's not for individuals who wouldn't be able to take the sticker shock.

When arrived, the pressure in the boiler was at 20 psi. The customer mentioned that when the boiler is on, water starts coming out of the pressure relief valve. Found the Extrol (expansion) tank is full, and the circulator pump is making noise. When the pump is on, it is not spinning at full speed to push the water to the 2nd fl. The Extrol tank and circulator pump need to be replaced. The Extrol tank needs to be moved to a different location, due to the tank is currently upside down and not accessible.

Larry H.
Performed a heating pm on an oil boiler. Brushed and vacuumed. Replaced the oil filter, nozzle and strainer. Started and checked the safeties. Performed a combustion test. 6.4% o2, 20 ppm, 81.6% efficient System is operating properly. There is a lot of corrosion on the domestic coil and the boiler drain. Can not repair those items without replacing the boiler.

HVAC Maintenance Service- Performed a heating preventative maintenance service on an oil boiler. Brushed and vacuumed. Replaced the oil filter, nozzle and strainer. Started and checked the safeties. Performed a combustion test. 8.2% o2, 35 ppm, 84.0% efficient System is operating properly. The oil line was plugged and very little oil coming out at the burner. Blew out oil line and bled the line. There are a few drops of oil on the bottom of the oil tank, but unsure if there is a leak or from when they delivered oil. There is streaks going down the side at the fill pipe. The tank is full. The pressure/ temp gauge is reading higher pressure than what is in the boiler. The pressure relief valve is not dripping.

Andrew H.
Boiler Replacement Service- Drained old oil boiler. Cut out and removed old boiler and accessories. Installed new PurePro Trio 4 section oil boiler with burner. Installed 2 new circulator pumps with isolation valves, zone panel, low water cut off, backflow preventer, autofeed, air eliminator, hi-vent, and expansion tank. Andrew H.
Performed 2 gas boiler pms Left back door Brushed and vacuumed burner tubes Inspected and vacuumed burner compartment and surrounding area Checked electrical connections and safeties Checked gas pressure Performed combustion test Inlet pressure- 8.725 in.w.c. Manifold pressure-3.4 in.w.c. 7.4%o2 38 ppm co Right back door Brushed and vacuumed burner tubes Inspected and vacuumed burner, blower compartments and surrounding area Checked electrical connections and safeties Checked gas pressure Performed combustion test Inlet pressure-8.84 in.w.c. Manifold pressure- 3.591 in.w.c. 5.3%o2 30 ppm co While performing the maintenance for the left back unit we found the cast iron heat exchanger is starting to develop cracks in between the sections of the boiler letting extra oxygen into where the flames are. Filled the cracks with furnace cement and took pictures and measurements for a replacement quote. Recommend replacing the unit in the near future before the cracks become worse.

Pump out oil into barrels from the old oil tank. Cut out and remove the old oil tank, fill pipe, and vent pipe. Cap the outside of the old vent and fill pipes. Install new Ecoguard 275 gallon oil tank, fill piping, and vent piping. Pump in the oil from the barrels. Bleed oil line and start and test system.

Andrew H.
Drained the system and removed the old boiler from the house. Installed a new Weil McLain WTGO-3 oil boiler with new circulator, piping, mixing valve and new oil line. Filled and purged the system, started and performed a combustion test. 7.7% O2, 23 ppm, 85.7% efficient. System is operating properly.

Larry H.
Turned the thermostat temp down and checked the system. The air filter is clean. Checked the refrigerant pressures, the system is properly charged, 14.9* subcooling. Checked the temps at the furnace and at the furthest register. At the furnace, 52*f discharge air, kitchen, 54* discharge. The humidifier bypass damper was in winter position, which can let air recirculate through the coil instead of going to the registers. The blower is a variable speed, checked the dip switch settings, it was set for 3 tons to push more air, the condenser is a 2 1/2 ton. There was 16*f between supply and return air. The system is operating properly. On hotter days, recommend putting the Fan switch from AUTO to ON position, to help circulate the air more especially on off cycles.

Andrew H.
Upon arrival both units were on but only lower floor was running. The upstairs unit was flashing the error code for communication error. With this unit an overflow switch was installed to interrupt the communication wire. Checked the drain pan and found there was a clog in the drain line and water was sitting in the unit’s drain pan. Blew out the drain line for both units and poured water into the drain pans to clear any remaining blockages. Also used a shop vac to suck out any possible clogs remaining. Turned power off to the unit to clear the error code and then started and tested the unit. Had good temps coming out. Unit is working properly

Larry H.
Performed an A/C pm. Blew out the drain line, replaced the air filter 16x25x1 Rinsed the condenser. Checked the electrical connections, checked the pressures and temps. System was low on refrigerant. Added 1lb 3 oz R22 to the system. System is operating properly. Also gathered info for a quote on replacing the system.

Andrew H.
Drained old water coil. Cut out and removed the coil. Installed a new water coil and nearby piping. Filled system up with water and checked all fittings for leaks. Tested hot water. Unit is working properly

Andrew H.
Upon arrival units were off. Customer stated the downstairs unit had water dripping from the lineset and water pooling on the floor. Customer stated the condensate pump was attempting to pump but was not working. Checked the check valve and it was not blocked. After getting customer authorization we replaced the condensate pump. Opened the air handler and found a small amount of ice on the coil. Removed the ice and replaced the air filter. Started and tested the unit. We found the 1st floor unit was low on refrigerant. After getting customer authorization we added 1 lb 15 oz R22 to the system. Unit is working properly Went to the 2nd floor unit and found water sitting in the primary drain pan. Upon further investigation we found the primary drain line was completely clogged and the secondary drain line had a partial clog. Blew both drain lines out and poured water to test the drains. Turned unit on and checked the refrigerant levels. Unit is working properly. Replaced the air filter

Andrew H.
Brushed and vacuumed flue pipe and heat exchanger Replaced oil filter, nozzle, and strainer Checked all electrical connections and safeties Performed combustion and smoke tests While performing the maintenance we found carbon buildup and oil residue inside the blast tube and on the nozzle assembly. Went through the job history and saw the ignition transformer was starting to get weak. Tested the transformer and found the spark was yellow/orange indicating it is weak. A weak transformer can cause delay in ignition making the unit start up rough and cause an oil smell. After getting customer authorization we replaced the ignition transformer. Started and tested the system. Unit is working properly. Noticed 1 section of the exterior of the boiler starting to leak and develop sediment buildup. Recommend reevaluating next year.

Larry H.
Turned the system to cool, the contactor did not pull in. Checked the wires at the furnace and the thermostat. Found the wire for cooling in Y2 terminal instead of Y1. After switching the wires, the condenser started. Checked the pressures and temps. 59*f discharge air. The system is operating properly.

Larry H.
Customer turned the system on. Checked the pressures. The suction side was at 24 psi. The system is low on refrigerant. Customer wanted to add the refrigerant to the system. Added 2 lb R22, and brought the pressure up to 43 psi. Due to the system not fully charged, the system may not properly and possibly freeze the coil.

Larry H.
Checked the system. The blower was running on the furnace. Checked the condenser for power. There was 24 volts to the contactor but it was not pulled in. Checked the pressures. The system was off on low pressure. There as 1.8psi in the system. The customer wanted to add refrigerant to the system to get it going then they will replace it. Added 7 lb 8 oz R410a to the system. System is cooling properly at this time but does need to get replaced due to a leak.

Larry H.
Performed an A/C pm. Blew out the drain line, customer the air filter. Rinsed the condenser. Checked the electrical connections, checked the pressures and temps. Added 11 oz R410a to the system. System is operating properly.
